Do you want to see mountains without climbing too high? We’ve got something for you: Panoramic views, steady ascent, and a historic hut… You’re in for a special trip into the heart of our Southern Alps!
ITINERARY
To make the most out of our day trip, let’s leave the city bright and early (not without a coffee) and head towards the mountains! We’ll interrupt the scenic drive to get one of the (world?) famous Sheffield pies, starting our trip the Kiwi way.
Once we’ve reached the track, there is a bit of uphill climbing involved until the main lookout over the Waimakariri Valley. Steady going and with spectacular views; typical Canterbury.
I’ll guide you further through beech forest, open grassland and sub-alpine scrub until we reach the historic Bealey Spur Hut (once used for high country sheep farming). Time for a brew!
In fine weather it is possible to climb beyond the hut to the top of the spur. There is no marked track but I know the way - that’s why you’ve booked me after all! A Lord of the Rings type adventure through swamp and forest brings you to the summit; and believe us, the views make all the hiking worth it.
Before we head back, there are still some unique limestone formations to explore… Several movies have been filmed around here and you are sure to recognize one or two scenes. Not to mention the photo opportunities!

You will also be supplied with protective overalls and a battle pack incorporating valuables pouch and capacity for a further 300 rounds of ammunition.
Hopper
Holds up to 200 rounds. Gravity feed.
Free Gas
High pressure CO2 cylinder 20oz of pressurised liquid propellant.
Paint Grenade*
High explosive paint filled device. Do not store in pocket**
Smoke Bomb*
Produces thick white or coloured smoke screen. Burns for approx.1 minute.**
