Lake Tekapo Petting Zoo
Open 9.00am - 4.00pm during Winter season.
Our family has farmed this land since 1928 and we love sharing our home and lifestyle with visitors from all over the world.
Lake Tekapo Petting Zoo is located on the original grounds of the historic Mt John Homestead and Farm Yard, a 5-10 minute walk from the village center.
If you're looking for a hands-on animal experience then come and say hello to our farmyard favorites. Pet and feed our Merino Sheep, Kune Kune Pigs, Lambs, Alpacas, Calf and rabbits. Learn their names and personalities and let our friendly staff teach you about the habits of each animal and explain how we care for them.
The admission price include a complimentary bag of animal feed and additional feed can be purchased for $10 per bag.
Animal feeding is done at 9.00am, 2.00pm, & 4.00pm. Please let a staff member know if you would like to join in.
To ensure that our petting zoo experience is fun and safe for our guests and our animals please read the following rules: Active Supervision: Children must be supervised by an adult at all times whilst interacting with our animals. Don't Run: Please don't run near to, or chase our animals.
No Dogs: Dogs are not allowed in, or near our petting zoo. They are allowed in the car park but MUST be on a lead at all times.
Please Keep Noise Down: Please don't shout at our animals. If noise levels are kept low it ensure a better environment for guests and our furry friends.
No Drones: Drones are banned in Lake Tekapo due to our local airport. They also scare our animals so please do not use them.
Strictly No Smoking Or Vaping: Thank you
No Outside Food: Our animals have set diets, please don't bring your own food for them.

Mt Hay Guided Hike

Conveniently located just a 10-minute drive from the town of Lake Tekapo, Mt Hay beckons with its towering presence and promises an unforgettable journey. Whether you're an avid hiker or a nature enthusiast, Mt Hay has it all. This climb will take on average take 3 hours to reach the summit

All walks commence from our town office, with convenient transport to and from the mountain included. A 30-minute 4WD drive takes you to the base of Mt Edward from the town of Lake Tekapo, where you'll be treated to a delightful lunch, snacks, and drinks, ensuring a well-rounded and satisfying experience.
Join our guided walk, departing daily at 9 am, and immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes that Mt Edward unveils. Elevate your exploration with Hike Tekapo as you witness the beauty of Lake Tekapo and the Southern Alps from the heights of Mt Edward, creating memories that last a lifetime. This climb will take on average 2 - 3 hours to reach the summit, the whole experience will be 7 - 8 hours long.
