Wellington AIDA 1 - INTRODUCTION TO FREEDIVING

Discover the art of freediving through our comprehensive AIDA 1 Freediving Course, designed to introduce you to the exhilarating world of breath-hold diving. Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your aquatic abilities, this course offers a perfect blend of theoretical knowledge, hands-on practice, and safety training.
Over two immersive evenings, you will delve into the core principles of freediving, covering essential topics such as relaxation techniques, equalisation methods, and breath-hold exercises. Our experienced and certified instructors will guide you through the journey, ensuring you develop a strong foundation in freediving skills.
Prerequisites: Be 18 years of age or older (16 or 17 years old with parent or guardian consent) Be able to swim at least 100m non-stop

Minimum water sessions: 1
This course offers a basic knowledge of freediving and introductory skills such as relaxation of body and mind, finning techniques, duck dives and equalisation.
NOTE this course is split over 2 evenings

Wellington AIDA 2 - FREEDIVER

Prepare to expand your horizons in freediving with our AIDA 2 Freediving Course. This immersive program is designed for individuals who are passionate about underwater exploration and wish to enhance their freediving capabilities.
Prerequisites: Be 18 years of age or older (16 or 17 years old with parent or guardian consent) Can swim at least 200m non-stop without fins or at least 300m non-stop with a mask, fins, and snorkel Requirements: 2 minutes static apnea (STA); 40 meters dynamic apnea (DYN); 12 meters constant weight freedive (CWT); Pass the theoretical exam

The course is structured to cover a wide range of essential freediving skills. The static and dynamic sessions in confined water teach relaxation, optimal breathing techniques, efficient finning, and safety protocols. In the open-water sessions, students can apply these skills in real-world scenarios, integrating them with fundamental open-water freediving techniques such as equalisation, duck diving, vertical swimming, body positioning, turns, and buoyancy management.
The theoretical component of the course will encompass vital aspects of freediving, including: Introduction to Freediving Freediving Breathing Cycle Basic Physiology of Freediving Equalisation Techniques Freediving Techniques Safety Procedures in Freediving Equipment Used in Freediving Various Freediving Disciplines AIDA 2 Freediving Course - 12 to 14 January: Friday 12th: 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM - Theory Classroom session at Akau Tangi Centre. Saturday 13th: Meet at WRAC (Kilbirnie pool) at 8:30 AM. Static session from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. 30-minute break, followed by a dynamics session from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Lunch break and relocation to open water site (location TBC on the day), from 1:30 PM to 4/5 PM (depending on group size). Sunday 14th: 9:00 AM to 4/5 PM - Depth and exam (depending on group size).
Join us from January 12 to 14 for this transformative freediving journey and gain the skills and knowledge to explore the depths confidently.
