License to Chill- Rees Valley Day Trip
Minimum age: 14 years old (please get in touch to arrange a private trip for groups with younger paddlers)
Maximum weight: 113kg or 250Ibs, this is dictated by the limitations of our gear
Departing from Queenstown, we drive along Lake Wakatipu towards Glenorchy before leaving civilisation behind us and disappearing into the Rees Valley. At the end of a dirt road, we'll spend some time getting prepared before starting our walk.
The hike in in stunning. Hanging glaciers, towering mountains and a river that flows through open grass lands. This is an amazing wilderness area, known for it's whitetail deer and the back drop to many Hollywood movies. It's not unusual for us not to see any other people in the valley as we wade through the river and amble along the track towards our lunch spot. The hike is relaxed and easy, without steep hills and should take between an hour and half to two hours to cover the 8-9km.
We'll have a heart feed sitting opposite the impressive Lennox falls before being introduced to our pakcrafts. Your guide will show you how to inflate them (not with lung power as many people imagine!) before giving you a full briefing and showing you how to safely navigate the river....then we're away!
Paddling back along the river gives you a new perspective on the valley and turns "out and back" trip into a circular route. The Rees river itself is a super mellow, braided river that you can either float along blissfully on or seek out the small waves and faster flows of the occasional small rapids.
Eventually, all good things must come to an end and we'll have to take off the river. Your guide will show you how to deflate and store your boats back into your backpacks before the short walk back to the car park where we started. For many of our guests, this is not only the best thing they've experienced in the area, but the highlight of their entire New Zealand experience!

Whitewater Packrafting Trip
Minimum age: 16 years old (please get in touch to see if we can arrange a private trip for groups with younger paddlers)
Maximum age: 75 years old (please get in touch if you're impacted by this and we can discuss options)
Maximum weight: 113kg (this is dictated by the limitations of our gear)
There's no trip like this in New Zealand. Like whitewater rafting, only you're in charge of your own raft. Our expert guides have been teaching people how to Packraft for years and the culmination of all this experience has been distilled into this action packed whitewater adventure.
Not only will you learn new skills and have an awesome time smashing through the rapids, but you'll do it in stunning environment on the Rees River, srounded by like minded people and some of the best Packrafting guides and instructors in the world.
Your day starts in Queenstown where your guide will meet you and drive you over towards Glenorchy and beyond to the Rees River. We'll get you guys all suited and booted into our paddling gear then head down to the river to begin our training session.
We have an incredible place to learn to Packraft, with small eddies to use so you can learn how to keep control of your raft whilst interacting with the different currents that the river throws at us. We'll also run through an important aspect of river running, how to deal with things when we make mistakes and swim!
Before long you'll be getting the hang of boat control and looking confortable in your raft. At this stage we'll have a little bit of lunch before locating in the van up towards the top of our famous whitewater run.
The decent down the river involves the most challenging rapids it's possible to run after just a days training. Grade 2 rapids might not sound like much, but it's more than enough of a challenge for most folks on their first day out on the water!
After our joy lap through the rapids, we'll jump off the river and get changed back into your nice warm and dry clothes whilst your guide recovers the vehicle from the put in and we make our way back toward Queenstown.
